hi, there!
Hello & Welcome to The Sweet Savory!
This is a site dedicated to my ramblings, fumblings, cooking, teaching & talking till we’re blue in the face. Because that’s what I do.
Some of you may recognize me from my old blogspot blog, an on again, off again affair aimed at keeping my family sated with news of my cooking & experiments. So, welcome to the new site!
I am a lifelong cook, literally since I was tall enough to reach the stove, I have been making food. And not because of some grand destiny, it’s because I am hungry. All the time. Every two hours or so, to be exact.
I am a curious, hungry person & can talk like nobody’s business, so that’s why we’re here. I am basically food obsessed and kind of opinionated. But, overall a nice lady. I am a professional enthusiast. As in I am enthusiastic on a professional scale, there is nothing amateur about my geek, this is some serious mirth, folks.
I genuinely believe in the fullness of a life that has great food at the center of it. Cooking daily is a ritual that is vital to a really great life, that’s just the truth of the matter. I believe in dinner with conversation & walking whenever you can. These are the best anchors a person can have.

my grandma's knives. i still get to cook with them sometimes & they always make me think of her. we both love a good japanese knife it seems
What propels me is delicious food, farmers markets, special things made with hands, plants, walking, great music, storytelling in all forms and beautiful things that can be the simplest act of nature. I believe in sustainability on all levels and am always looking for ways to find it or create it.
I work freelance as a personal chef, recipe developer & cooking instructor. I am learning about healing foods & wordpress. I make teas & play with plants & occasionally churn out a craft or a little copy about food related things. I also write & make corny jokes.
So, that’s about it!
Have fun. Enjoy the ride. And don’t crowd the pan!
Deliciously yours,
Rachel

I fixed your recipe for Tomato & Goat Cheese Soup.
It was a 200% Success!!!! Everyone LOVED it. (Even the one who doesn’t like tomato Soup. )Since I used canned tomatoes & they looked rather pale, I did double the Tomato Paste and I did use the optional sugar.
Great recipe, Thanks!
new to your site, but cannot seem to find the actual recipe for the sweet potatoes and nuts!
lynn,
welcome to the site!
the recipe is there, just below the picture of the serving piece. there is a table that outlines ingredients for 4 servings or 8 servings.
hope you enjoy~
I just thought it was awesome that I stumbled upon your name from brunelloshavemorefun.com. My name is also Rachel Humphrey, and I’m also from Missouri. Lived in O’Fallon for a year or so, but originally from a small town about an hour away. Just thought it was crazy that there’s another “me”, and one from the same state as well!
Anyway, love the blog and just wanted to say hi!
hi rachel!
